Sambizanga

Tonight’s film comes from Angola.

Sambizanga (1972)

Whether you’re learning Portuguese or would just like to learn more about Angola’s liberation from Portugal, Sambizanga is an important film.

Although set in Angola, it had to be filmed in Congo, as the country was still fighting for independence from Portugal in 1972. Some of the scenes depicted are harrowing, but important. Though fictional, the film is based on the real struggle against the occupying Portuguese.
